Happy Day Card – Faux Patina Technique

Here is one of the projects we did at my Card Clubs in November.  I’m excited to show you this beautiful stamping technique called “Faux Patina” which I learned while I was on the SU incentive trip in Fiji earlier this year. 

Here is a close-up photo of the background paper which has a touch of Gold Emboss Powder to highlight the beautiful embossed image.  You really have to see it in person to find out how the gold emboss powder really adds an extra beauty to the card.  I hope you will try it and find it out yourself.  Enjoy!!!

Supply List

Stamps – Happy Day (Annual Catalog page 112)

Paper – Always Artichoke, Marina Mist, Very Vanilla

Card Stock Dimensions

Always Artichoke (card base) – 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″

Marina Mist (layer) – 5-1/4″ x 4″

Very Vanilla – 5-1/8″ x 3-7/8″

Faux Patina Step-By-Step Instructions

Card Stock – Very Vanilla ( 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″)

Ink Pads

One Neutral Color – Crumb Cake

Two Medium Colors – Marina Mist, Always Artichoke

One Dark Color – Early Espresso

Step 1 – Ink one side of the embossing folder using a light neutral color ink (Crumb Cake) as shown.  Place a piece of Very Vanilla card stock on the opposite side and carefully close it. 

Step 2 – Run it through the Big Shot and your card stock should look like this.

Step 3 – Starting with one of the medium shade of ink, sponge Marina Mist color randomly in a circular motion over the embossed image.

Step 4 – Then sponge the other medium shade of ink (Always Artichoke) in a circular motion over the image covering up the area that does not have any ink.  You can overlap the area that has some blue too. 

Step 5 – Sponge the edge and also the embossed image with Early Espresso to bring out the deep tones and textures. 

Step 6 – Using an Emboss Buddy, rub the entire sponged image to soak up any remaining ink moisture. 

Step 7 – Take a small acrylic stamping block (or something small and flat) and ink your block with VersaMark.  Then apply ink over the top of the embossed image randomly, not the entire image. 

Step 8 – While the VersaMark ink is still wet, apply Gold Emboss Powder and heat emboss with the Heat Tool.  If you have too much powder, brush it off carefully.  Your card stock should look like this. 

Isn’t it so pretty?  It’s amazing when you can turn a piece of Vanilla card stock into a gorgeous textured image like this, don’t you think???  Love it!!!
